Drowsy Drivers Awareness Day
Drowsy Drivers Awareness Day is observed next on Sunday, April 6th, 2025 (113 days from today).
Drowsy Driver Awareness Day takes place on April 6 each year to raise awareness of the dangers associated with drowsy driving and honor those who have lost their lives in driver crashes.
California has an awareness day that every country in the world should have. It's Drowsy Driving Awareness Day and it happens on April 6 every year. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the dangers of driving a car (or riding your motorbike) for long periods of time without a break. It also makes clear some dangers of driving when you are so tired but try to drive. This date was devised by former California Highway Patrol officer Phil Konstantin. He has witnessed many accidents due to fatigue and experienced dozing at the wheel and narrowly avoided a serious accident. He also told the sad story of how his wife died in a car accident because she fell asleep at the wheel. This situation can happen to anyone, of course.
Drowsy Driver Awareness Day is also a day to honor people who were killed in a car crash involving a drowsy driver. The California Highway Patrol says 100 people die each year in collisions with drowsy drivers. It said that over a 10-year period from 1993 to 2003, more than 41,000 people died in crashes involving a drowsy driver. The National Sleep Foundation of America reports that 62% of people drive while feeling drowsy. Additionally, 27% said they had actually dozed off while driving. Each year, more people die from drowsy driving-related accidents than from many serious illnesses. On Drowsy Driver Awareness Day, do anything to make raise awareness for drivers about the dangers of getting behind the wheel when they are tired.
