• How many days until International Eat an Animal for PETA Day?
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is an organization that is supposed to represent the rights and humane treatment of animals. Yet of the roughly 2,000 animals brought to PETA each year, only a handful survive. The majority of these animals - about 96% according to 2011 figures - will be taken through the back door of PETA headquarters after being killed, waiting for the regular transport of the Tidewater Pet Cremation Service to pick up the carcass. International Eat An Animal For Peta Day is held annually on March 15th, founded in 2003 by a writer and teacher living in Virginia, her name is Meryl Yourish.
History International Eat An Animal For PETA Day
In 2003, Meryl visited Wind Rider, a blogger who lived at a steakhouse next to PETA's headquarters and there the bloggers were given raw meat to cook for themselves. Meryl, Wind Rider and Bruce Hill (a friend of both) went to eat there, but they didn’t eat because Meryl didn't like to have to cook their own meat. After that, she decided to go to a restaurant nearby and also near PETA's headquarters to eat. And she came up with the idea that she would carry anti-PETA placards along with a camera of her own to capture this sign of the uprising. It was on that day that she created PETA's Meat Eater day and encouraged others to also do signs against PETA.
According to data from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), in 2014 PETA injected poison to kill 2,454 dogs and cats out of a total of 3,369, most of which were mammals foster abandoned by the owner. During 2014, only 23 dogs and 16 cats were adopted, 252 pets were transferred from PETA's farm to another organization's farm.
This is not the first time PETA has been accused of killing animals, since 1998 until now, Peta has performed "humane death" for 33,514 pets, most of which are cats and dogs.
According to data reported by VDACS, over the years, 84% of pets will be killed within 24 hours of arriving at PETA, and only 1.5% of dogs and cats will be adopted.
For animal experts who have long disliked PETA, these numbers are not shocking, any animal rights organization has two sides, that's what they can do and what they actually do. But PETA is considered by many to have gone too far.
But besides the negative opinions about this organization, many people think that the number of unclaimed pets sent to PETA is increasing every day, mostly for health reasons, of course no one will accept cats and dogs thay sick, poor health individuals are forced to receive "humane death" so that they can spend money, food, and stables for other healthier animals.
