Obviously, this vision has had a huge impact not only in the United States but around the world, as today it has been broadcast in more than 80 countries (and all 50 US states). Little League has always stood for fairness, sportsmanship and teamwork; so it's no surprise that it's popular even today.

History of Little League Girls Baseball Day

Although Little League itself was a program that began two decades ago, it was only in 1959 (on its 20th anniversary) that President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed National Little League Baseball Week a week Official ceremony to celebrate the benefits of Little League. According to Eisenhower, this week is worth celebrating because it serves to increase interest in the game of baseball itself and to encourage so many young people to channel their energies into a healthy, physical competition, while at the same time transmitting give those valuesthat will last a human life.

The history of baseball itself has rather mysterious origins, due to the many myths surrounding its invention. Its predecessor is said to be the English sport of cricket and football, but the game of baseball (as we know it today) was purely an American invention, in the mid-1800s. In the 1840s, there was a man named Alexander Joy Cartwright, who played a game they called 'basic ball', in New York. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), many soldiers would play baseball between battles to pass the time, so in the late 1800s the game was called "America's Pastime." In the 1920s, a program began for boys called the “American Legion,” and schools also incorporated the sport into their physical education programs. However, there is still a gap because there is no way for teenage boys who want to play the sport until Little League appeared.

Little League was started by Carl E. Stotz in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He had no sons, but in 1938 he began to think about how many his nephews liked the game, but lacked any organized program to play it. In 1939, Stotz and his wife Grayce, along with Bert and George Bebble, bootstrapped their local community and started Little League, by raising money for uniforms and equipment through local sponsorship. Together they became the original board members of Little League, and the first game was played in an old district on June 6. Initially, Little League was established only for boys, in age’s eight to twelve. However, this changed in 1974, when girls of the same age were also admitted to the tournament, and softball was also included. Little League currently has three main leagues, based on age groups - junior, senior and major leagues, respectively. In 1990, Little League also started a new inclusion program for children with mental and physical disabilities, named the “Challenger Division”.
