History of National Cheese Lover’s Day
The history, origin, and founder of National Cheese Lovers' Day are unknown. There is no mention of the year since this Day was celebrated. However, cheese has a long history and tradition. Cheese is a food obtained from milk and comes in a variety of flavors, forms and textures by coagulation of the milk protein casein. Milk obtained is usually obtained from protein and fat from cow, buffalo, goat, and sheep. The earliest archaeological evidence of cheese making dates from 5,500 BC. A few years ago, milk was moved and stored in sheep's stomachs for a few days until the proteins split into curds and whey. Now the curds have been salted and aged.
Cheese is prized for its longevity, mobility, and high content of fat, protein, calcium and phosphorus. It is also more compact and has a longer shelf life than milk. At different stages, bacteria, enzymes or fungi are added. When it is further maintained in a certain controlled temperature, time and humidity resulting in the desired taste, color and texture. Herbs and spices are sometimes used as flavoring agents. Cheese tastes better at room temperature. There are over 900 cheeses categorized by taste and texture. Depending on the type of cheese, its nutritional value will vary. Most notably, the world's largest cheese was displayed on this day at the 1964 New York World's Fair, weighing more than 34,000 pounds.
