No Pants Day
No Pants Day is observed next on Friday, May 3rd, 2024 (69 days from today).
No Pants Day is an unofficial holiday that occurs on the first Friday in May. Held primarily in the United States, it urges participants to spend the day wearing no pants in public. Participants were encouraged to act as if it was normal not to wear pants.
No Pants Day is on the first Friday of May every year and we know how comfortable you can be when you change into your pants after a long day. Can you believe that the oldest pants ever discovered by archaeologists are woolen pants in Western China dating back more than 3,000 years? Although these pants are often worn for horseback riding, over the years these pants have varied in purpose and material. From riding to work and fashion, to wool and denim, ripped jeans are all the rage, and everyone has more than one pair.
History of No Pants Day
The first example of National No Pants Day is said to have started in Austin, Texas, during the 1980s. A club at the University of Texas called Buh Knights wanted to celebrate the freedom to disobey society and the end of the semester. After finishing the final, they pulled their pants down and walked around in their underwear. Although this started as a college prank, the tradition continued until 2000 when states across the US and in other countries like Canada, UK, and Australia, started taking over caught this day and also want to participate in it.
Another story about how this day first began is about a man in the 1980s asking his wife if she could iron his work pants for an important meeting. While worrying about being late for work, too much time had passed; he rushed out the door forgetting to put his pants back on. When he finally realized he was gasping for air, he was on the subway. Since there was nothing he could do, he pretended that nothing was out of the ordinary and put on a fake smile.
Similar to Nationwide No Pants Day, there is No-Pants Subway Day which was started in 2002 by the comedy organization Improv Everywhere. In January of that year, a group of seven people rode the subway in their oversized coats and bras. They did this as a joke to see how other subway riders would react when they were naked in January weather. Since 2002, this day is celebrated and has spread to other countries.
How to celebrate No Pants Day
The celebration begins with choosing you’re no pants option for this holiday! The options are wide, as there is only one rule, No Pants! This means you can wear shorts, skirts, dresses, anything that leaves your feet free to enjoy the feeling of the wind on you. So there's certainly no need to stand in front of the mirror and ask the question what should the Tigers wear? That question is pretty redundant given the fact that you're not wearing anything! (Also related to pant)
If you're feeling really daring, you can pick up your most sporty pair of panties and step out into the sports world with a nice pair of pins!
National No Pants Day is a great holiday that reminds us that true freedom requires but one thing, feet untethered from the shackles of denim, polyester or any other fabric that can be worn. Can hold them, prisoners! So, why not join the fun yourself? This is one of those rare times of the year when everyone can skip the rules and have a little fun! Be creative, don't wear pants…
