History of Nothing to Fear Day

Fear is a survival response, but sometimes it becomes overwhelming and can take control of our lives. In this case, it can cause us to become overly cautious or cause us to react in harmful ways. Fear Nothing Day is a day when people test their fears and see if their fears are preventing them from living life to the fullest. It can be a day's work to overcome these fears. It is also a day to be aware of how people and governments use unfounded fears to manipulate people, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

On May 29th 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave a speech in which he said that "We are not defeated by fear of the very danger we are preparing to resist. Our freedom has shown its ability to survive in war, but our freedom will never last after surrender”. That is the base for the birth of Nothing to Fear Day. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself was given in the form of a radio address from the White House. It urges preparation and so that the country does not fear war, in case it will eventually come. He referred to his famous quote that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself appeared in his first inaugural address in 1933. Just over six months later, the United States of America would be embroiled in World War II, following the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Examine the fears you have and find ways to overcome them. Are you afraid of heights? Force you to climb a tower or skydive. Do spiders, rats and snakes give you creeps? Take a trip to the zoo! Are you afraid of public speaking? Attend a seminar or public speaking class. If you're afraid of the dark, get rid of the night light, if only for a day. If you are afraid of flying, book a plane ticket. If death scares you whether it's death itself or what happens to you after you die, explore ways to overcome your fear. Be open to your other hidden fears and recognize the fears caused by others. There's nothing to fear!
