Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day’s history

First born in New York City in 1992, Take Daughters and Sons to Work Day isn't always what the name suggests. The day was originally just for girls and was called Take Daughters to Work Day. The effect of the day was explosive and it was later expanded in 2003 to include boys. Most companies have accepted any children without caring boys or girls and this holiday has been renamed ''Take our daughters and sons to work day'' and now takes place every fourth Thursday in April every year.

Chairman of Ms. Foundation for Women, Marie Wilson and colleagues originally founded Take Our Daughters to Work Day. Initially, the show attempted to address self-esteem issues for young girls, which is why boys were excluded. Friction is caused when educators opt out because this day's curriculum discourages male participation. April 22, 1993 started the first day and it has been celebrated ever since. More than 3.5 million companies across the United States including parents, schools and children celebrate this holiday every year.

The word 'our' refers to the nation's children, the country's girls and boys, which are relevant because the addition of boys was universally accepted in 2003. For this reason, some companies started calling it ''Take Our Children to Work Day''.

To provide all students approaching career opportunities, regardless of gender, the flexibility is recommended and necessary to demonstrate the original perspective of nurturing and inspiring young children. Men carrying children claim to have benefited from being seen as parental figures as well as being experts that have greatly helped in combating gender stereotypes.
