Passive smoking contributes to approximately 41,000 non-smoking adult deaths and 400 infant deaths each year.  Smoke causes stroke, lung cancer and coronary heart disease in adults. Children exposed to secondhand smoke are at increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome, acute respiratory infections, middle ear disease, worsening asthma, respiratory symptoms and delayed lung development.
