Matanzas Mule Day

Maybe it is fabulous that Matanzas Mule Day is a great chance to express the gratitude a mule that was killed in a battle during the Spanish-American War in the village of Matanzas in Cuba. In fact, the mule was mourned and buried as a soldier. Moreover, Matanzas Mule Day is celebrated annually in memory of the mule and honors mules in the world.
History of Matanzas Mule Day
While National Mule Day celebrates all mules, today we remember only one, the Matanzas Mule. On April 27th, 1898, it was the first stages of the Spanish-American War, the United States Navy fired on Matanzas, a city on the North Shore of Cuba. One casualty of the bombardment was a mule, and the Spaniards buried it with full military honor. About 200 people were present for the funeral, including members of the militia, volunteers, marines and elite officers. They walk in a procession as melancholy music plays. It is said that mules are fired and then lowered to the ground while wrapping a Spanish flag. Although the mule was buried centuries ago, we still remember it today and its sacrifice for our country.
