National DIY Day

National DIY Day is an annual celebration on April 7^th in order to celebrate creativity and the art of making. Do-it-yourself is the practice of doing, decorating, building, furnishing, and repairing yourself instead of hiring a professional. Do-it-yourself behavior can be triggered by economic gain, lack of product availability, lack of product quality, demand for customization and also by craft skills, empowerment and uniqueness. DIY can also help you keep costs low and improve your creative skills. It's a day of creative inspiration for all ages and genders.

History of National DIY Day

National DIY Day was recently created by the Craft Box Girls team and 2016 was the first year we held this event. Craft Box Girls' mission is to celebrate creators and inspire ordinary people like you and me to create things their own way.

From fruit cocktails to garlands and vases to pillowcases or anything else you can imagine, Craft Box Girls can do it all by themselves, with just a few easy-to-find items.

The history of DIY probably goes back to the early days. Italian archaeologists recently discovered the ruins of a Greek temple-like structure with detailed assembly instructions in the 6th century BC in southern Italy and now known as "ancient IKEA building".

Just like the world-famous IKEA guidebooks, the different parts of the temple are engraved with coded symbols that show how the pieces fit together. As it turns out, DIY has actually had a pretty interesting history!

How to celebrating National DIY Day

Is there anything you can't do that you're a little embarrassed about not being able to do? Maybe it's a simple thing that you have never learned? Whatever it is, spend this day working hard to learn how to do it.

They said that “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for life”. Therefore, let ask a friend or family member to teach you to knit or change a light bulb or cook something more than water.

Becoming more independent has never hurt anyone! The more you know how to do things, the more confident you will be and that has never hurt anyone!

Of course, learning how to make a dish instead of buying a tray of unhealthy frozen foods from the supermarket is a much shorter process than learning a foreign language so you don't have to depend on others when traveling or in the work.

But that doesn't mean you can't make DIY Day the day you start learning! The first step is always the hardest, but also the most important, so let this day be the day you take a step in the right direction and change your life for the better!
