World Book Day (UK & Ireland) is observed next on Thursday, March 7th, 2024 (351 days from today).

History of National World Book Day
World Book Day or International Day of the Book is celebrated by UNESCO and other related organizations on April 23 every year. World Book Day also known as World Book and Copyright Day, it is an occasion to encourage the joy of reading and the art of reading. April 23 was chosen by UNESCO as a book day to remember the world famous writers who died on this day: William Shakespeare, Miguel Cervantes, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. The date was adopted by UNESCO at the General Assembly in Paris in 1995, to honor authors and books worldwide. In 1988 the UK and Ireland changed World Book Day to the first Wednesday of March. On April 23, the UK held the Reading Agency.
On World Book Day, in many countries there are book exhibitions, public readings, booksellers offering discounts or gift cards for books, etc. And in the UK and Ireland are no exception.
