If you love a fast paced game, you can play it indoors and give you all the thrill and excitement of baseball; then it's time to test Softball. Softball is another variation of baseball that has an interesting history and fierce competitive spirit like the more famous baseball. If you know and love this game and its long past, then World Softball Day is for you.

History of World Softball Day

World Softball Day has been celebrated on June 13th since 2005. World Softball Day celebrates softball, a sport played by about 30 million people around the world. Many people suspect that softball is an easier version of baseball, a version mostly enjoyed by children and women, which is not true. Softball was invented so that more people could enjoy an indoor version of baseball. This misconception along with the idea that softball is easier than baseball is two common misunderstandings that plague the popular game.

Softball courts are usually made of dirt or brick dust. However, pitches can also be made of solid and dry surfaces such as artificial grass or asphalt. There are four bases on the field - the first base, the second base, the third base and the home plate. The bases are arranged in a square shape and are usually spaced 60 feet apart. Near the center of this square is the pitcher's mound, and within the circle is a small flat rectangular piece of rubber held no more than 50 feet from the home field, depending on the league in which the game is played. The object of the game is to score more runs than the opposing team by hitting the ball and running around the bases, touching each one in a row.

A game of softball usually has seven innings. Each half is divided into an upper half, in which the away team beats and tries to score, while the home team tries to score three innings. In the second half, the roles of the teams are reversed. Some tournaments can even be played for a time limit instead of innings.
