Each year, on April 14, Ex-Spouse Day encourages those who have broken up a marriage to forgive their ex-spouse and work through any anger or bitterness may be left over.

Held annually on April 14, Ex-Spouse Day is celebrated to encourage those who have broken up a marriage to forgive their particular ex-spouse and work through any bitterness and anger for them can have.

Why Ex-Spouse Day?

It's clear that not every relationship ends in a positive way; therefore, in a similar respect, this is a National holiday that has been designed for such people to think about the memorable times they have spent with their ex-spouse. Ex-Spouse Day is a day where everyone has the right to spend their last single time with all positive thoughts regarding their ex before moving on with the rest of their lives and their personal activities.

Although celebrated 2 months after the world famous Valentine's Day, This is a holiday for everyone that is not complete, but at least the end of this day and era of life. It is found that very few marriages are supposed to end amicably and peacefully. Successful people can't help but feel regret and anger.

For a variety of reasons, marriages don't tend to work out sometimes. Proving this, recent statistics have shown that the divorce rate while considering first marriages is around 50%. In addition, some people consistently find that they get along better after a divorce, compared to the time they spent together in the marriage.

Unfortunately, not all divorces turn out to be amicable; some people's experiences can be traumatic and painful. Regardless of whether separation is friendly or not, there needs to be a way to manage any such situation effectively. Likewise, Ex-Spouse Day is also celebrated.

Some of the main reasons are:

  • Recall all the happy moments with happy thoughts and reflect on those happy moments that made you grow and laugh together.
  • You can balance each of your ex's annoying and negative habits with a happy one.
  • If you're still married and don't feel like things are going your way, you can talk to your spouse or take a step.

History of Ex-Spouse Day

Pastor Ronald Coleman of Kansas City, Missouri created National Ex-Spouse Day in 1987 as a way to erase the bitterness often associated with divorce. During his inauguration year, Rev. Coleman has come up with buttons that say “I'm OK - Your History,” to help clear up a day. He hopes more people will forgive their partner and focus on the positive aspects of their lives.

Some reasons for Ex-Spouse Day being important

  • Don't forget happy thoughts

Many people turn into bitter Bettys (or Bobs) when you mention their ex-spouse. But, we need to remind you, today is not the day to think poorly about them (or your relationship). Think back to the reasons you walked down the aisle to your big wedding - or that drive through Las Vegas. Think about the happy moments that made you laugh and mature together.

  • You no need to deal with their annoying habits

What is your ex-spouse's most annoying habit? (Calm down, we don't have much time here.) From popping gum to bathroom etiquette, it's an occasion for excitement that you don't have to deal with. However, since today is technically supposed to be a positive holiday, we'll make you balance each negative thought with a happy one.

  • But wait - I'm still married

If you're still in a happy marriage, you can still do something for your husband or your wife to celebrate Ex-Spouse Day. Take a moment to think about what makes your relationship work and what you love about that special someone. However, if you are unhappy in your marriage, perhaps today is the day to consider making them your ex (Thursday) spouse. We're not recommending, we're just saying.

How to celebrate Ex-Spouse Day

  • Make it all about you!

For those newly divorced, today is a great day to focus on you. There are many activities that are easier to do when you are single and do not have to consider the opinions of others. So write down a list of five things you want to accomplish as a lady or a single guy. This will help you focus more and allow you to start making more progress, rather than lying in bed or turning to that third blender.

  • Spend time with your kids

It's a great day to hug them and give thanks for the beauty that comes from your partnership. Go for ice cream and enjoy their laugh (or their whine). You can sit there and smile knowing that they got the best from you and the not so great from your ex.

  • One person's waste (wo) is another person's treasure (wo) someone else's

Do you still keep a few items that remind you of your ex? Throw them in the back of your car, drive to the nearest donation center and leave them to others to enjoy. If this seems like a lot of energy for an ex, grab those items and light a campfire. Yes, we know what you're saying; Ex-Spouse Day is a positive holiday. But who has ever been sad about a bonfire?
