National Tartar Sauce Day
National Tartar Sauce Day is observed next on Friday, March 4th, 2022 (38 days from today).
History of National Tartar Sauce Day
National Tartar Sauce Day is established in 2017 by Frisch's Big Boy with the purpose of honoring tangy sauce as more than just a sauce for fried fish. Samuel Frisch opened the first Frisch's cafe in 1905 in Cincinnati. In 1923, son Dave Frisch took over the operations along with his two siblings after the death of his father. Then in 1946, Dave Frisch tasted the first Big Boy double-decker hamburger. To prove this was an important decision, Dave Frisch made Big Boy sandwiches using homemade tartar sauce instead of the original recipe called Thousand Island sauce. Dave's signature tartar sauce became a staple on Frisch's menu. It has been sold in pint jars to the take-home market since 1960. During Lent, Frisch's tartar sauce is very necessary on Frisch Fry menu, but its original claim to fame is in Big Boy sandwich.
Some facts about National Tartar Sauce Day
There are many reasons to observe National Tartar Sauce Day on the Friday after Lent begins. Things start to get confusing for one person. On the other hand, tartar sauce doesn't just compliment the fish. So it's time to start this celebration by counting the ways!
Great for crisps, fries and crispy appetizers, tartar sauce adds a delicious flavor to fried dishes. When used as a sauce, it adds a creamy luminosity to fish, chicken, and beef dishes. As a marinade, it's also great for baking. Mix it up into a pasta dish or a potato salad. Add it to steamed vegetables, and the tartar sauce completes the meal.
But the tartar sauce doesn't stop there! Do you crave Tex-Mex? Add some seasoning and top your tacos. Are spring rolls on the menu? For a sweeter dipping sauce, mix some coconut milk into the sauce. Increase the heat with wasabi, but keep it fresh with chopped cucumbers. For each season, from the coast to the garden, tartar sauce becomes a versatile condiment no matter where you are.
