National Textiles Day
National Textiles Day is observed next on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 (140 days from today).
National Textiles Day is observed annually on May 3rd since 2016 in order to recognize the amazing contributions of textiles in improving the love of the users.
We recognize the key role textiles play in our daily lives. Textiles are woven from natural and synthetic materials into the clothes we wear, the bedding we sleep on, the carpets we step on, and even the fabrics we paint on them. One of the big pioneers of sustainable and eco-friendly textiles and the creator of National Textiles Day is a company called Valley Forge. Have you ever thought about what life would be like without textiles? Everything around us including clothes, home décor…will be different in particular.
Why National Textiles Day?
Woven fibers originated from natural and synthetic materials create textiles easily and comfortably. As a result, the fabric produces coatings for a wide range of applications. The clothes we wear every day, the linens we sleep on, the upholstery materials for our furniture, and the rugs we use throughout the house. These are all textiles. The pleating and canvas we use in art and painting are both applications of textiles.
Because of many reasons, textiles are born. Then, they are favored due to their versatility. Different colors and textures provide a lot of different design and expression. In fact, fabric is very important for our life. To the extent that we are able to alter the weave to suit the individual needs we have, woven fabric remains a very strong yet very delicate material and will always conform to the intended design. While textiles are sporty because of their breathability, others are resistant to wind, rain and even the sun.
In manufacturing process, sustainability as well as the environmental friendliness of textiles is the key factors. For example, Valley Forge Fabrics, a company that serves by working synonymous with the environment takes great care of the textiles they produce such as fabrics. The company has recalled most of its products since its establishment many years ago.
History of National Textiles Day
Textiles bring our lives a lot of changes. Since the late Paleolithic, the dyed flax was found in a cave in the Republic of Georgia for 34,000 years ago. Before textiles became ubiquitous and accessible, humans used things like animal skins, leaves, and tree bark as clothing to protect themselves from the elements.
Textiles are created by spinning raw yarn into long, twisted lengths to create a flexible web of yarn. Then, weaving, knitting, crocheting, knotting, ripping, felting, and linking or braiding these fibers together help to manufacture them. Our clothes, our bedding, our upholstery materials and our rugs create them. Even the oil paintings we paint on are made from canvas.
Environmental sustainability is an overarching goal in the modern manufacturing era, and this also applies to textiles. Valley Forge Fabrics is a friendly company that is always in harmony with the environment. As far as you know, sustainable textiles have founded for many years.
Valley Forge was published since May 1977 in Pennsylvania by Dan and Judy Dobin. A year later, they moved to New York, taking with them Valley Forge and their five children. In 1980, they entered the hotel business and never looked back. In 1991, they created the first set of sample books to send to hotels to help them choose the fabric they wanted to use for their upholstery. A year later, the Dobin family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In 2007, they launched the first major group of FRESH products or Fabrics Redefining Environmental Standards for Hotels, which are the creators of National Textiles Day.
